3D Scanning & Reverse Engineering · Kitchener–Waterloo

From a physical part to editable CAD.

Bring us the part, or we come to you. We scan it, then rebuild it as clean, editable SolidWorks CAD — ready to modify, 3D print, or send out for machining and moulding. Ideal for worn, broken and discontinued parts, and anything that has to fit something that already exists.

What we scan

When a part exists but its CAD doesn’t.

↻

Replacement parts

Worn, broken or discontinued parts with no drawings and a long OEM lead time — scanned, rebuilt and printed as a drop-in match.

▣

Fit-to-existing designs

Brackets, mounts, covers and enclosures that have to mate with equipment, a vehicle or a product that’s already built.

◉

Organic & body-contact shapes

Grips, handles, wearables and fit-to-body devices where a scan captures the shape far better than a tape measure.

▤

Legacy part libraries

Digitise the spares nobody has drawings for, so the next failure is a reprint rather than an emergency.

✎

Design starting points

Scan a competitor-style reference or a hand-made prototype and use it as the base for a new, manufacturable design.

⚙

Improve, not just copy

Fix the weak point that made the original fail — thicker walls, better material, a changed feature — while the part is in CAD.

How it works

Part to CAD in four steps.

1

Send photos

A few photos and rough dimensions, or book an on-site visit. We quote the job before starting.

2

Scan

The part is scanned in the shop or on-site. Critical features are also measured by hand.

3

Model

The scan becomes clean, parametric SolidWorks CAD — not a lumpy mesh.

4

Deliver or make

You get STEP and SolidWorks files, and we can print, finish and test-fit the part here.

Common questions

3D scanning, answered.

How accurate is the finished CAD?
It depends on the part’s size and surface, so we don’t rely on the scan alone for what matters. Holes, bores, mating faces and other critical features are measured with calipers and gauges and modelled to those numbers, so the CAD matches what has to fit. Tell us which features are critical when you get in touch.
Do you scan on-site?
Yes. For equipment that can’t come to us, we scan on-site across Waterloo Region and nearby. Travel is included in the quote up front.
How much does 3D scanning cost?
Scanning and modelling are billed by the hour, with a firm estimate before we start. A simple bracket or cover is often a few hours from scan to finished CAD; complex assemblies take longer. Photos and rough dimensions are enough for us to estimate.
What files do I get?
Editable SolidWorks part files and a neutral STEP file that any CAD package or machine shop can open. We can also supply the raw scan as STL or OBJ if you want it.
Can you scan shiny, black or clear parts?
Usually, yes. Very reflective, dark or transparent surfaces may need a thin temporary scanning spray, which wipes off afterwards. We’ll tell you before applying anything.
Can you make the part too?
Yes — that’s the usual next step. We print the replacement in the right material, test-fit it where possible, and can set up a batch if you need spares.
